A
lift chair could be considered medically
necessary if
all of the following coverage criteria are
met:
1. You have
severe arthritis of the hip or knee, or have
a neuromuscular disease.
2. The seat
lift mechanism must be a part of the
physician’s course of treatment and be
prescribed to effect improvement, or arrest
or retard deterioration in the patient's
condition.
3. You must
be completely incapable of standing up from
a regular armchair or any chair in your
home. Once standing,
you must have the ability to ambulate
(walk).
You may
receive Medicare reimbursement for seat and power lift
chairs. Please contact your insurance
provider to be sure.
Lift chairs
can be purchased with cash at retail
dealerships or by a combination of cash and
insurance.

Medicare on a patient's behalf as a Non-Assigned
Claim. The following forms are required
to do so in addition to your Insurance
